About Us
Taff Ely Triathlon club was formed in 1989 for Triathletes around the Pontypridd area of South Wales. Today the club has around 100 members and many live in or around Pontypridd, the Taff Valley from Merthyr and Aberdare. For several years the club organised the Ken Leonard Memorial Triathlon, named after one of the first members who was killed while out cycling. The club has a large number of veteran triathletes, and also several beginners so there is always someone of your own ability to train with. If you are thinking of taking up the challenge of triathlon or doing other endurance sports, why not join the club for some guidance, encouragement and direction with your training.
Over the years we have had several ‘big names’ as members some of who are listed below:
Gerwyn Davies Commonwealth Games 1990
Martin Powell Hawaii Ironman Finisher, Welsh Champ (Several Times)
Richard Jones Elite Triathlete, Home Nations Duathlon and Triathlon winner
Chris Goulden British Veteran Champ
Vince Thomas 20-24 Age Group World Champion, Duathlon, Cancun 1995
Paul Andrews Triple Ironman Finisher
Colin Wallace Top Welsh Time Trialist and Triathlete (Welsh Team)
