Ride Leader-led Bike rides
Bike rides (uncoached) for adults take place at any time throughout the year. They are for members only. The club has a number of Ride Leaders (not coaches) who will advertise these rides. The rides are posted on our Club Members’ Facebook group and will indicate a route, indicate distance, elevation gain, start time and meeting place(s), though arrival home times are generally posted as this is subject to too many factors. The ride route is usually provided in the form of a file which can be copied to a Bike computer to help navigation (stops you getting lost). The post about the ride will normally provide a booking form (Eventbrite or similar) where riders will commit to turning up at the start and provide contact details. Only Road-bikes or similar please as these rides take place on tarmacked surfaces and should not have Tri-bars fitted that extend beyond the handlebar hoods, e-bikes are also not allowed. It’s definitely worth checking to see if the ride is still taking place before setting off as rides are sometimes cancelled due to poor weather. Distances vary and you should always come prepared for a cafe stop, especially on a Saturday, carrying money for that eventuality to purchase your refreshments.
Similarly, in the late spring/summer months there is a regular Tuesday ride for adults that takes place as nights draw out but generally are never more than 35-40 miles and are broken down in small groups according to ability – we occasionally manage ladies-specific rides as well as fast, intermediate and steadier groups for the less experienced and fitter amongst us. The details of these rides are also posted on our Club Members’ Facebook Group with a link to book on to it. The club accepts no responsibility for you whilst on these rides and you should learn the basics of on-ride cycle maintenance eg. changing an inner tube or how to repair a puncture for that eventuality, putting a chain back on, and carry a small multitool and spares in your saddleback to assist..
Please read our Cycling Etiquette before attending.
